Slightly mind-boggling, given that the term we use for ourselves is 'meritocracy', but have a stray thought:
| Quote: | [00:40] <Nechku> So, the idea of anarchy is to break the monopoly of the executive. Possibly also the judicature, depending on definition. Chiefly the executive, though - the monopoly of force.
[00:40] <Kayura> welcome back ^^
[00:40] * Kayura nods.
[00:41] <Nechku> Dark Arcadia has a partial monopoly of the legislature, but not of the executive, and not of the judicature, because constitutionally, those are considered to be supplied 'by the people for the people' (so to speak), directly, i.e. two parties will pick what arbitrator they want and it is up to the people to enforce the laws.
[00:41] <Nechku> I.e. it would end up with a system similar to what Friedman discusses.
[00:42] <Nechku> The only difference to 'pure anarcho-capitalism' is that the Archon still has the right to impose nation-wide laws. Which you'd think could be at odds with voluntaryism, and totally could be, except for one point...
[00:42] <Nechku> You're not born Arcan. You apply for citizenship.
[00:42] <Nechku> Bam.
[00:42] <Kayura> I was going to say, that sounds like what he discussed
[00:48] * Nechku realises I should explain why I say 'partial monopoly'.
[00:50] <Nechku> Basically, there are a few rules that the Arcan state sets down - no murder, no theft, no destruction, no slavery, those sort of basics. But as Friedman rightly says, good law is tough. And the moment nuances enter the picture, I am sure the central authority of the Arcan state would not bother making those rules, but leave it up to structures like the ones Friedman proposes. |
Note that this argument simplifies the matter for the sake of argument, but the central truth remains that the monopoly of the state in Dark Arcadia is solely found in partial legislature.
(It may well be prudent to do away with that, also, to prevent it from ever encroaching on Arcan freedom, but if nothing else, having someone specific to represent the nation to the outside may not be a bad idea.) |
